The Importance of Rest
How often do you find yourself muddling through your day feeling tired, drained or exhausted? If the answer is ‘often’, then it begs the question, are you taking your rest time seriously enough?
With our busy bee lifestyles full of back to back commitments, you might think we’ve gone mad suggesting you had time for anything else besides running around like a headless chicken. However, the times when our lives are the most hectic are the times that our bodies and minds so desperately need rest and reset periods.
You don’t need us to tell you how much of an impact lack of rest has on your day-to-day functioning. Being in a constant state of all systems go is seriously exhausting and when we’re exhausted this has a knock-on effect on all areas of our lives, from our relationships to our work, and from our mood to motivation. Headless chicken syndrome leaves us feeling far from inspired, while the benefits of being fully rested, or at least making the most of our rest periods, are plenty…
- More energy throughout the day
- Less stress
- Boosts your immune system
- Keeps you in a happy mood
- Improves brain function
- Assists with healthy weight management
- Boosts libido
- Better memory and increased creativity
- Helps keep a healthy heart
- Good for your mental health
Now we know rest is good for us and that we should be making more time for it, but how do we do this when the to-do list is never ending? It’s all about being wise with your free time and prioritising. Instead of scrolling through your phone when you get a spare 10 minutes, try to fully switch off, whether this is through meditation or just having a nice lie down, the idea of rest becomes a realistic goal if we minimise our distractions.
So there’s your challenge folks. Try to prioritise rest periods throughout your day or week and watch how you feel more refreshed, energised and positive and see how this has a knock-on effect in all areas of your life.
Happy resting!
