A Powerful Year End Ritual

journaling

As Christmas approaches, some of you may celebrate, some of you may not, some of you may love it and some of you may not! We are multi-faceted and that is ok, as long as you can embrace who you are.

Which is why it is useful to reflect upon your year, to unearth the learnings, to see what is important and oftentimes how it is the small things which create the biggest impact and how something which may have had a huge emotional impact now no longer does, freeing up your energy and allowing you to welcome in something new.

I find reflection a powerful tool and in The Curious Cub we dedicated the whole month to it so we can:

  • Notice the successes and achievements often missed in the busyness of our daily life.
  • Understand what is and isn’t important to us.
  • Get clarity on who we have become and celebrate.
  • Learn from ‘mistakes’ as nothing is truly a mistake if we can move forward with valuable information about ourselves and our decisions.

Before I dive into some questions for you to contemplate for you own reflection, I would like to take a moment to thank you for being a part of our community, to celebrate all our wonderful Wellbeing Coach Graduates and to wish you a wonderful festive holiday.

Your Powerful End of Year Ritual

Find a quiet moment before the end of the year, maybe light a candle, play some soft music, scent your space, wrap up in something cosy and grab your notebook.

The philosopher, psychologist John Dewey states: “We do not learn from experience … we learn from reflecting on experience.”

Sit with the following questions and write without editing your thoughts:

  • What was your best experience this past year and why?
  • What gave you the most energy and what took away your energy?
  • When were your boundaries the weakest and what was your reason?
  • Where did you display great boundaries and how did you communicate them?
  • What has been your biggest lesson learnt this year?
  • What can you celebrate about yourself?
  • How have you taken care of yourself and how have you not?
  • How have you evolved over this past year?

Anything else you wish to reflect on over this last year then write it all out and notice what you focus upon.

When you have finished give thanks to yourself and what you have learnt.

Best wishes to you for the coming year.
