Claire Maguire – The BBC Good Food Show

It’s been a busy and fun filled week for us here at Raw Horizons. With Claire fresh from her interview appearance at the BBC Good Food Show last Friday, there was no slowing down as we kicked off our prestigious Wellbeing Coach Training Course on Sunday. Phew!

We arrived at the show and went straight into two radio interviews for Claire, the second one being live for BBC Radio York where she was quizzed by their presenter Johnny I’Anson about her passion for raw food and the effect that a mainly raw diet can have on your physical and mental wellbeing. Although he did seem to struggle with the idea of meals being served at room temperature as opposed to piping hot! You can hear Claire’s interview here (She’s on at 2:37- 2:46 hours into the programme)

After enjoying a delicious VIP lunch backstage, it was over to the main Interview Stage for Claire to be quizzed by the lovely Lotte Duncan, the well-known chef and TV food presenter. The interview was fabulous! Lotte was really keen to hear all about the raw food diet, Claire’s philosophies and the work that we do at Raw Horizons Retreats. We must say it was also pretty great to see Claire’s photo hanging up on the backdrop amongst the likes of Paul Hollywood, Tom Kerridge and the Hairy Bikers.

It just goes to show how wonderfully diverse the Good Food Show is and how far we have come in terms of the way healthy living is viewed. Gone are the days of health food conjuring up images of soggy salads and bland lentils. It’s now seen as a much more vibrant way of fuelling your body, both in terms of flavours and the benefits it has. The video of Claire’s interview will be coming soon…

Claire also held a meet and greet in the VIP area. It was nice to chat to the attendees, give them a ‘Raw Food 101’ lesson and explain the philosophy behind the Raw Horizon Retreats. It’s brilliant to hear people so curious to find out more about this style of eating.

The Spring Show of the BBC Good Food Show is in Harrogate each year and it’s an amazing place to meet local chefs and businesses and enjoy lots of local produce. If you’ve never been to one of these shows then it should definitely be added to your ‘things to do’ list….and not least for all the samples! There is stall after stall of all things food, drink and kitchenware. From exotic cheeses to local gin, fresh brownies to chutneys, posh knives to colourful ceramics. The Good Food Show is certainly a foodie’s dream!

However, we were there to chat raw food and fill people in on the principles, benefits and ethos behind this way of healthy eating. Harrogate itself is a bit of a hub of wellbeing, with its healthy eateries, juice bars and the like, it’s certainly somewhat of a trailblazer in terms of Northern towns. As I’m sure you have all noticed, healthy food is very much in the news, with people taking a real interest in how they are fuelling their bodies. With so many seeking an alternative to the typical western diet of bread and pasta, raw food is really taking over.

We had chance to stroll around the stalls sampling goodies and Claire fell head over heels with a beautiful new chef knife. We even got to try out some Power Plates which were great fun and left us a little wobbly in the leg…

With warmer months on the horizon, it’s just about coming up to food festival season, so keep an eye out for one’s happening local to you and when you’re there see if you can notice a larger ‘healthy’ presence than years gone by. I bet you’ll be surprised by the beautiful, fresh options on show. And keep an eye out for us, who knows, we could be popping up at a food festival near you!

Here are some of Claire’s delicious raw recipes to try at home…
