Don’t be fooled…

Food Labels

I’ve just come across another good example of marketing hype with labeling… In a very posh hotel they are offering complimentary bottles of green tea in their rooms.

Here is what the bottle states:

  • Green tea with honey and ginseng
  • 100% all natural
  • Where great taste and goodness ‘naturally’ come together. Green tea for its health benefits, ginseng for energy and nature’s natural sweetener, honey.

Now for the first three ingredients in order:

  1. Green tea in filtered water
  2. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
  3. Honey

Here’s a product using all those lovely healthy words and descriptions, when the second highest ingredient is High Fructose Corn Syrup! Or as otherwise know – Corn Sugar. ie: it is just another name for refined sugar!

I find myself dumbfounded! Though I really shouldn’t be so surprised…

As I’ve stated in my previous blog – What’s in a name?, the marketing experts will get you every time if you’re not careful.

So once again I urge you to not be fooled by the tempting words and pretty designs on the label, but to read the actual ingredients…
