Eat well to live well…

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ― Hippocrates.

I have been blogging about healthy eating and the impact of food choices on our wellbeing for 10 years now. For most of that time, I seem to have been at odds with mainstream thoughts on statins, low-fat diets & sugar.

I’ve also been upset to see how the medical profession are not taught the benefits of holistic health & nutrition for our wellbeing. From friends’ experiences with asking doctors’ advice on what to eat to aid recovery, to the lack of useful dietary help for pre-diabetic patients, the answers are shocking!

Then there’s the controversy caused by UK’s Dr David Unwin & Australia’s Dr Gary Fettke, who successfully recommend a low carbohydrate, low sugar diet to help reverse type 2 diabetes.

So it’s great to see an NHS doctor advocating how food and lifestyle choices can help protect from illness and disease. Dr Rupy Aujla is about to publish a recipe book about how food can be some of the most powerful medicine. It’s called ‘Eat to Beat Illness’ and is out from 21 March 2019 (you can get it here from Amazon…)

He’s also a big believer in gut health, as am I. It’s important to realise that your microbiome diversity affects your mental health too. There’s also evidence that low microbiome diversity makes weight loss difficult. Read our blog: What Should I Eat for a Healthy Gut? to find out which foods help create healthy gut bacteria & a diverse microbiome.

So hopefully the medical profession is broadening their horizons to the benefits of healthy eating, good nutrition and positive lifestyle on our overall health and wellness.

Eat well, be well & live well…
