What Makes a Training Space Come Alive? End of Year Reflections
Have you ever wondered what really happens in a virtual training room?
What makes the difference between just another online course and a transformative learning experience?
As we approach the end of the year, with our final training completed, I find myself reflecting on these questions.
What I’ve discovered might surprise you.
“Where are the PowerPoint slides?” It’s a question I often hear at the start of our Health and Wellbeing Coach Training.
But here’s the thing – while we absolutely have structure (our comprehensive training manual keeps us all on the same page), what brings our training to life is something entirely different.
It’s the stories we share.
The real-world experiences.
The moments when theory transforms into “ah-ha!” insights.
Yes, we follow our manual – it’s our foundation, our shared reference point. But it’s how we bring those pages to life that creates the magic.
You might think that teaching over Zoom would create distance. That screens would become barriers to connection.
Yet I’ve discovered something quite unexpected.
Our virtual classroom often creates more intimate, focused connections than traditional teaching spaces.
Every face is visible, every voice has space, every reaction adds to our shared story.
Let’s talk about energy.
How do we maintain momentum through five intensive days of training?
It’s a delicate dance really. Sometimes we need to surge forward, diving deep into new concepts. Other times, we need to pause, creating space for questions and insights to emerge. It’s about reading the room – yes, even a virtual one – and adapting our pace to keep everyone engaged while covering essential material.
What makes this approach work?
I believe it’s the balance. We have our structured framework – the vital knowledge and skills every coach needs. But within that framework, we create space for organic learning moments. When someone shares a powerful insight or asks a thought-provoking question, we give it room to breathe. This is where deep learning happens.
As I look back on the year, I feel immense gratitude for:
– Every person who stepped into our virtual classroom, ready to grow
– The breakthrough moments when concepts suddenly clicked
– The laughter (and sometimes tears) we’ve shared
– The supportive communities that formed in each training
– The ripple effect our graduates create in the world
To every graduate from this year: thank you.
Thank you for bringing your authentic selves to each session. For engaging, questioning, sharing, and growing. You’ve shown that meaningful connection doesn’t need physical proximity – it needs presence, authenticity, and shared purpose.
Looking ahead to next year, I’m excited to continue refining our approach. Because at its heart, our training isn’t just about teaching coaching skills – it’s about creating spaces where transformation naturally unfolds within a framework of proven methodology.

Here’s to authentic learning, real connection, and the countless lives that will be touched by the coaches we train.
What’s your experience of learning spaces that truly come alive? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
